Lane intimidation in General Discussion

So I was with my friends playing dota of course. We have been winning a lot as me playing the mid lane. However there was this one time. wherein I got faced with an "Immortal Player Ranked 1.7k", and got owned pretty bad. I got like 0-11. sooo
my question is. do you think it's all pyscological that I'm afraid of him in the lane, or is he really good? something feels really different when I was facing him at mid, like I can't get near the creeps properly and He is fucking last hitting creeps inside my tower. After like 5 mins, I was already too afraid to go near the creeps.

is it because he is really good. or is it because I got intimidated by his rank. or is it both. there is really something, it's like he has an aura that says "You cant touch me, gtfo" rofl. I might get faced with another guy like this since my friend is Divine 5, So I dont wanna be a burden.

He ultimately is way more skilled than you and knows how to press an advantage. Hence you end up feeling pressured. U lose the lane he gets an advantage. And it becomes a real disadvantage. The GAP grows.

He doesn’t give u a chance to get back in. Ultimately this feeling is what you are referring to. is it entirely psychological? Yes and no. well because you feel u can’t do anything and become afraid to do anything because he punishes your every move.

Just dont be intimidated lol, 1.7k is barely 6k or jst around 5.9k. He can still make lots of mistakes

I would say the skill of the player just makes you worry and play worse. You make stupid mistake and either try too hard and are punished or you worry too much and you dont have impact.

I was playing once against tinker (checked his profile later, he had over 90% winrate) and just by basic things I knew he is not typical 3-4k player - for example he was hooked from first wave by smoked pudge to my side of the river and he instantly planted the tree between them, ate it and was out of his reach within a second. Those small plays just made me play more agresive and lose mid the worst way I could.

I managed to kill him later couple times, but it was way too late.

I would suggest trying to play your typical game, try to stay in your comfort zone against these smurfs and just make sure you have input for your team.

He is just good, I have played against immortal rank 200 in mid in lobby many times(he's my friend lol). Its hard to last hit and I always gets pressured in the lane. And then I lose the lane.

The ranked players typically are the 1% (or even less) of the world population born with haoshoku no haki, said to instill fear even across continents through internet connections. Some report loss of consciousness and awake with no memory of the game, and when looking at their score they loss abysmally.

I don't mean any harm, but that's just life for you.

.. really in my rank we always say those immortals that are 4 digit(1000 and above) are usually cancer, e.g steal roles and feed as they cant adjust to the higher mmr bracket

Honestly as some people have said, Immortals under about rank 500 are not dissimilar to people in the divine bracket. Yes they are good players but they aren't gods by any stretch of the imagination. Create a favourable match-up with your picks and play to the best of your ability and you shouldn't get stomped by a 6k.
