Uh I don't think people do assume that. Mostly drow strat is about buffing other ranged heroes, typically medusa. It's not about more auras for drow. Pubs kind of go nuts stacking auras, like this drow game I played, luna, medusa, drow, venge. It was crazy.

i dont think that "many" people think drowstrat is drow and venge. its the opposite way
one of the most famous drow combos is visage.
oh yes, visage was forgotten by me, my bad. I learned about drow strat on reddit 2 yeards ago when the main advantage was the quick push strat as a combinations of venge and drow aura. Since then I see it only like that. And very surprised that it is not standard thing. But well, my bad again then :D

Your question is a bit flawed. You're comparing Drow + Support hero with Drow + Core heroes. You can have all three in the same game i.e. Drow + Venge + Arc Warden and even + Visage. Leaving whatever you wish to be picked n the offlane. Probably NP since he's a lane stomper and synergizes well with the push strat.
I personally don't like venge that much cus venge is kind of bad at zoning enemies solo due to her lack of range. With terror and her stun you can kill people easily but the stun doesn't last long so you must coordinate.
Usually with drow you want hero, who can splash something - on the lane, if needed and in late game. So venge is kinda bad..
sniper is quite bad with other heroes, who are like him, he needs heroes to tank, so he can be in back of action :)
damage might be nice, but he has good enough damage even without him when farmed
Yeah drow and sniper both need front liners. Drow loses her aura if people too close. Tide, void, axe
I like drow strats. In all my drow games I don't think I've played w a visage yet. Usually it's ending fast that gets me going.
Huskar, tho squishy against some heroes, works as a Frontliner
Dusa is another good one
Viper sounds like a cool option
Even razor is a good option considering he builds tanky
The other option is picking a Frontliner offlane like centaur or axe or smth, then running a mid like mirana or sniper or ta or Lina or sf who may be squishy or stay back but deal a lot of dmg with a drow.
AA and Winter Wyvern will shit on Huskar and Drow.. Good bye life regen.. .oh and Drow / Huskar kill eachother, and creep wave clear :l

Why many people think Drow strat is only drow+venge?`It also goes nicely with Huskar or Arc Warden or even with sniper. VEnge can still be there in the team, since her job is aura and swap-save the drow, but mid could be one of those 3 super heros with ranged attack
