Say a normal monitor to those 144hz monitors or a normal dell mouse to some razer mouse. Or even the computer itself like having 120 fps on high for everything to getting 25-30 fps on the lowest setting for everything.

Do these things make a huge difference or it is just excuses for people?

Has anyone upgraded their equipment by alot and enjoyed a huge increase in mmr?

    Altaire

Low fps is extremely annoying. Was on 30-40 before, now on 120. It helps a lot. Once play with 17 fps, never again

Not too sure about 144 Hz since I never use it myself

And since I didn't play ranked, Idk how it affect yours. But the game surely become easier (a bit) and more enjoyable

monitor doesnt matter a ton for dota,

I went from a laptop to a desktop with a real keyboard.

I almost immediatly went up like 500 mmr

        arin

not huge increasement so far but i've definitely improved

i was always wondering how come that i have no idea whats happening in big teamfights
ended up realising that i have like 10 fps during them

also it's more like it doesn't make you play better but it makes you not lose lanes or even games you'd otherwise win because of stupid shit like game randomly freezing in crucial late game teamfight etc

A bad internet would limit you much more.

Good equipment won't get you 7k mmr, but it will make game more enjoyable. Keep in mind that most people think of Dota 2 as an esport title that is "not demanding" for hardware. That's actually half true. If you want 1440p 144FPS without drops you pretty much need 1500$ PC. And i'm talking only PC, not monitor, mouse and rest...

Anyways, if you are brainless you can have 10k $ pc you will still be 3k. Won't help that much. On the other hand talented players can achieve good results on average hardware.

i got to 5k with a old laptop that has 20-30 fps on the lowest settings, team fights basically were a powerpoint presentation.

and worst of all it's screen didn't work so i had to hook it up to an 20 year old monitor.

and my internet was shit so i had constant disconnections and average ping of 120-200 to the nearest server.

but that made you 20 times better player because you were able to overcome this handicap with your insane predictions and outplays

@cuki I'm got stuck at 4k with a similar setup. What's your secret?

                        in all honesty
FPS and internet connection is what matter the most
i've played around the FPS that cookie said before and i dont even believe myself how i even did that in the past
internet connection on the other hand
really fucked up especially when ur lagging during crucial teamfight
                        so i guess
only these 2 factor are really game changing
the others are so minor that it didnt really matter

dota is 90% theory and 10% execution

also my secret is playing SK since i can just shift queue everything, so that execution is no problem :D

                          smug pig

dota is 90% theory and 10% execution

Nahaz would be 10k by now

                            basement :)

As long as you can get a constant 60 fps, your computer is not holding you back.

Your computer is not holding you back in any case, unless is really THAT slow, that basically stucks every teamfight

there's tons of 3-5k analysts and coaches for those pro teams, those people don't have the same mmr a pro has, they have a different type of knowledge that's useful to the pros.

@Cookie But that kinda makes the statement "Dota is 90% theory and 10% execution" quite untrue. Like mentioned above, if it were true, players like Purge and analysts on the desk would be extremely high MMR. Granted they are 'VHS' in Dotabuff terms, but clearly not even at 8k pub level. I would argue its 50/50 but there's really no solid number you can put to this.

Also, is 11 fps enough to play Dota?

                                    Jacked

I run Dota on laptop just fine. But my internet does hold me back and makes me lose lane because of random lag spikes and packet loss

I thought most pro team coaches are retired veteran pros. Like those, who have an insane drafting/macro knowledge, but poor micro due to older age/lack of micro. Fear, Artstyle, 7uckingmad, JotM are all those types of coaches.

None of them are 3-5k, it would've been a severe understatement, rather they're retired 6-8ks with hundreds of competitive matches and tournaments behind their shoulders.

                                        saving private RTZ

Nahaz would be 10k by now

Nahaz isn't good at theory though. He is a stats man, not a theorycrafter or w/e. You're confusing random numbers pulled up by nahaz(i.e how good Liquid is doing in early game, what their winrate with huskar is this patch etc) with actual game knowledge and game sense

Again, he said analyst, not coach. Some teams have analyst which provides them stats like winrate of their opponents with x hero, what they like to ban, what they like to open the draft with etc. They have no say in the actual game decisioning like a coach does

ON topic: I've gone from 3.3k to 4k when i upgraded from like 30fps to 120-150. Though correlation =/= causation so take it as you wish

I went up 800 mmr after upgrading my computer. You likely wont see anything more than this based solely on equipment but if your averaging less than 60 fps a better computer can really help with cs and dodging spells.

Some things matter more than others and it also depends on how used to it you are. FPS and internet connection matter most but other things give you a varying amount of advantage. Having side buttons on your mouse for example gives you two extra keybindings that are in a convenient place. I wouldn't be able to play without those two buttons but there are people who play better than it do without them

                                                          MeePwn

I went from 1.8k mmr to 3.9k on a Dual core e2200 and a GT 730 with average 36 fps and drop to 15-20 in team fights. Got a better pc, dropped from 3.9k to 3.7k now :D

                                                                FPS & Internet Connection.

                                                                That is the most important.

Hardware (mouse, keyboard, headset) has little impact.

Like, I recently moved into a large house and have my own room where the other tenants share their bedroom (like dorm style college rooms) and that was like... 8 people (me included) using shitty wifi. Well, the wifi was fine if there were only like... 3 of us, and my room is upstairs. Tested my connection and played some risky dotes, it was fucking brutal.

the 150/mbps plan between 8 people is utter garbage because who knows how many devices they have connected?

So I got my own modem/router and the tech guy is gonna finish my installation and I will have 300/mbps all to myself. Pretty overkill, but fuck slow internet, that will literally drive normal people such as myself to grow murderous intent.

Anyway, the wifi would go from 1/Mbps and jump to 55/Mbps for like 1 minute and it would stay at 1/mbps for like 5 minutes.

tl;dr Fuck playing Dota with constant 90 packet loss and almost throwing games, and losing slitbreaker because of packet loss + lag.

p.s. FPS & Internet Speed = most important

                                                                For hardware I recommend Steelseries.
                                                                Razer is garbage.
Okay, it is better than a lot of products, but you are paying more money for a name.

                                                                Anomaluna

I hope the time I get a high-end desktop with a good gaming mouse and keyboard instead of playing with my 11fps laptop in my lap sitting on my bed with a broken keyboard and mouse will improve my gameplay and get me to 4k atleast. If not, I will quit.

Again, this probably has to do with mentality too. If you have too many lags and shitty internet and terrible FPS, it will make you tilt and rage more. Says something about Cookie who could do all that and get to 5k despite that condition. Probably doesn't tilt at all.

                                                                  plaku]

@Anomalina~.. you think that purge is better or same level with pro-se when it commes to theory part?!! not at all , he only can understand and analise theyr play , ( not always). but he is not the one to create meta , he is not capable on exploiding the weakneases and the strongest point of the meta or game itself in general even in theory. he does some basic analises and in your eyes it looks that he knows everything , cause he is good in explaining that stuf ,he is a good teacher to teach to other waht he knows, doesnt mean that he knows more than all.

                                                                    Shou

good equipment won't get u mmr or skill, it just makes you feel comfortable. As long as it's not laggy the fps is fine and that's the subject where some say 40 is fine for them, for some 60, for some 200, a person who once tried a monitor with some sorta sync like gsync and lets say 165hz and played for a while, will never feel comfortable playing with 60 or even 100 anymore, it just looks laggy, while it might felt smooth some time ago playing on a 60hz screen. Keyboard, mice, mouse pad is just a preference and your comfort, I mean yeah, playing at a super high lvl something like cs is not the same with a cheap mouse, it just doesn't cut it, the sensor is just bad, not meant to track as accurate. I remember when I had to do some 3d stuff and draw @ school with some cheap mouse, and a crappy mouse pad, it was impossible to do a straight line and it was pissing me off, while @ home with a good equipment I could do all this stuff without effort.
