@Cookie, I see your point, and I almost completely agree. Roaming is my favourite role to play, simply because I hate laning. Its too static, too slow and too hard to coordinate decisions like pulling and pushing with another player. As a roamer, you feel like a free agent. Just go do ya thang. In this way, I think you and I are complete opposites. I don't know a lot about your guides or you as a player but I assume you must be a carry player given the last hit challenge everyone talks about. So in that sense, its about changing mentality.

Yes, when lanes are ungankable, you really just end up collecting runes, and stacking if you're good at timing (which I'm not). Its really not about feeling like you're doing something, but more about denying the enemy support gold for that precious sentry or wind lace. It is boring, I don't deny. I have obviously found more success as a roamer in party games, despite not using mic or chat wheel. Just a ping suffices. For the most part, you DO need another player to assist you in a gank or even harass someone out of their lane, and I don't need to explain why that rarely happens in solo games. What you said about getting levels is absolutely true. There is probably no hero that can single handedly make an enemy core get so low on health when you're level 1, that your core actually responds and sees the opportunity to kill steal and get some additional farm, the only reason they really will react most of the time.

In my games atleast, 9 out of 10 times, the enemy will go a 2-1-2 laning system, in which case my safe lane with, a support who focuses more on pulls because they are incapable of harassing, will suffer. This is where I feel like you have to start. 3v2 in most cases will favour the higher number, unless you have completely wrong heroes or are just daft. Push them out and make them feel like you're always there, which usually just involves dewarding their 0 minute ward and staying off the map. That's not always the case. There was 1 game for instance, where I just stood in the fog in my mid lane, away from creep xp range, spamming level 1 torrent as a kunkka on a 280 MS invoker who used up his tangoes in the first 2 minutes. Went and collected runes, making him think I left the lane, then came back with a real gank, without even needing dust because he prioritized Quas levels rather than a single Wex and got the kill.

These are things of course, that I do in my skill bracket, which is much lower than yours, but you did ask for the 0-5k MMR bracket. One advantage that I do have, is that when my enemy picks 'the mid', 'the carry', 'the support', 'the tank', they leave that one spot for the roamer, which is non-existent in my bracket, allowing me to pick exactly what is needed. Picking early and getting countered by ungankable lanes is rough, but I'll just have to get better to know what to do more than collecting runes in that case.

edit: I love watching singsing's streams btw. He is the one I look up to to learn roaming. It is incredible he first pick randoms heroes in his 5k seasonal MMR games and almost always goes roaming, no matter what the hero, and makes it work WHILE having fun and being intentionally stupid. There clearly are some things he knows that we don't.

      P.S. Tusk is legit.

Roaming is for those who got tired of laning. Staying in the lane too long will just cause brain damage over time (mindless farm, boring shit)
