Well, he just have a stack of 10 accounts, he put all of them to find match at an empty server like Dubai on Captain's mode. Then he would just spam no recorded games so that the account matchmaking skill will drop to the decoy accounts and find match again I think.

Definitely not easy to do but its possible. You need to have 10 different accounts sitting at 6 - 6.5K first (could theoretically just buy them), then you get them all to search on a low traffic server like Dubai at 4am (that server's local time) when nobody else will be playing. You make sure that one of your bots takes longer to load than the others so that if you get into a game and someone else is there you can cancel that bot's loading and thus kill the match.
When you're in a game with your 9 bots you proceed to destroy them in 20 minutes earning you and 4 of your bots 25 mmr. Keep repeating while rotating bots between winning and losing teams so that their mmr doesn't drop too fast. If done right you'll have gained 4.5K mmr in the time your bots all drop 500mmr.
Don't know much about practically doing it, no idea how to set up bots or anything like that. Also don't know if you need a separate pc for each bot. Either way it sounds time consuming and expensive to set up the whole thing in the first place so don't expect everyone to suddenly jump to 10k
Depends on the pc, I don't think dota limits how many clients you can run or how many can connection from one mac/ip address or whatever, but most pcs cannot handle that many clients running. So you'd need 2-3 decent to good pcs probably or 10 crappy ones.
Getting the accounts is probably the harder part and why I wouldn't worry too much in the 3-5k bracket cus who's going to want to buy that many accounts just to get 3-5k mmr? Lower brackets there's more traffic too so harder to pull off.
But it is worth it, HE IS the first 10k in history there's no denying that, and we gotta compliment his effort to abuse that shit lul but why is there not another sandbox abuser getting 10k as well
Dota 2 seems bad recently, it's almost a mess.
I think sandbox is more for avoiding detection,he can bot with 1 computer with lightweight os,ssd and virtual machine.
To fix u just need to define Must rules inorder to que for solo ranked (ip ,mac(best couse same router),maybe generate tokens for players participating in matches to find irregularities statisticly)which could not be avoided with sandbox program on vm.
Just giving input if anybody from valve reads,not supporting this shit or anything like that.
Other things are said ,they bot normal matches till lvl 13 calibrate with bots same shit in ranked until high mmr.Im sure acc sellers are doing calibrations with bots seen those accs with 10 matches in undefined region.I dont think those guys buy accs they just do same stuff in normal.Also having few matches in radnom region then 99% in eu or whatever rises suspicion for acc buyer.

Also i red about some ai software for dota existing ,probably some raw input program(to avoid detection) maybe he automates that on vms
