if they have a hero with low AS/BAT like Sven, moving a little between attacks (right-click + A-click) doesn't make a significant difference in DPS. This means they can get in position for a quicker walk to the barracks/creep camp etc. However, you won't see people doing this with something like a Morph because of his high AS. It's just about efficiency, I guess.

Melee heroes really don't need to do that continously. Because right clicking on a friendly unit once does it until tower chooses a new target.
its a habit all the half decent players have and they continuosly do it without thinking about when will the tower change the target
its just done automaically
It doesnt save time btween attacks , because the target is not moving , its just a habit bro , if you really are used to it , u can still do it at late game when you get high attack speed , because have enough experience to know that your hero will not waste time doing it .
Hang on. Animation cancelling doesn't increase dps does it? I thought it's only benefit was it reduced the time spent standing still and thus allowed you to hack down a fleeing enemy more easily.
You cancel animation in the jungle to minimise tanking creeps.

^Fvck the sniper, its hard to last hit on some point because of the animation but not that bad.
I do it almost all the time,to get a better position while hitting tower.
But main reason is I think I am cool when I doing it.
I think attack moving is like a half step in tennis or other racquet sports. It's to prime yourself to execute the next move quickly like getting to a better position or retreating quickly. While if you're just standing still you'd react slower if enemy made a move
wait a second, did i just hear that towers prioritize you if you don't stop attacking? I thought they only prioritize closest to furthest
tower prioritizes units and heroes that attack it over the ones that do not, except for the poor siege creep ignored untill the very last moment.
