Lately I don't play anything outside of dota cus I barely have time for any dota, but some of my favorite games of the past few years:
-Dragon Age Origins. I haven't played enough of inquisition to say if it's good or not, but DAO is an amazing lite rpg with tactical 3rd person combat. Very fun, good story, enough character development to satisfy rpg fans without being over the top complicated.
-Mass effect 2 and 3. Both just awesome 3rd person action shooters with rpg elements.
-Dead space series. All the games are awesome in different ways. It's 3rd person horror/adventure. The third one becomes kind of an action shooter and that's ok! The story is compelling imo.
-FTL: faster than light. This is a rogue like spaceship management game. It's incredibly fun, easy to learn, hard to master.
-SPAZ: Space Pirates and Zombies. This is a top down space shooter but with rpg elements that make it really cool. You get to scour the galaxy looking for spaceship plans and weapon plans to outfit them as you see fit, plus level up different systems so you can fight off hordes of zombie ships.
-Defense Grid 1 and 2. Tower defense game but a really cool one. I can't say it does anything extremely unique but it's just very well executed altogether.
-Torchlight 2. The first one is ok, 2 is a lot of fun, diablo clone pretty much but a good one.
I played a bit of skyrim too but it's overrated unless you like games that need a shitload of mods to actually be cool.
there are tons of amazing old school games
-Master of orion 1 and 2
-Civ4, I don't really consider this old school but everyone's piled on the civ5 bandwagon, though civ4 is tons better. I guess it's around 11 years old at this point! but the real definitive version didn't come til 2007 with beyond the sword expansion.
-Sid Meier's Pirates remake
-Any heroes of might and magic game, I'm partial to 1,2,3.
-Lords of the realm 2
Dota 2 and Rainbow Six Siege is what I play. I also play alot of poker but I suppose this doesnt count.
dark souls 2 beaten 7 times, gave up on dark souls 1 prepare to die edition after like 20 failed attempts to get the moonlight greatsword from seath the scaleless and to this day didn't finish the first one :)
i also played a shitton of tf2 and some spelunky, dawn of war and smite but then again smite is considered a moba for whatever reason so idk.
also you should probably check out transistor it's short but worth it.

Right now I'm kinda thoroughly enjoying the racing game DiRT 3 when I get tired of DotA. I really liked how it shat on me so hard the first time I played the game (before this game I also often play most NFS titles, went through advanced skill setting right away since I felt the beginner and intermediate settings kinda stuck my car into train tracks and it wasn't fun) often going off the course in unintentional barrel rolls but now I could honestly tell myself I'm getting pretty good with it.
Also I play a lot of first person shooters. Acquired CS:GO recently and I think it's really fun. I'm shit with most automatic weapons but I think i'm pretty decent with the AWP and most other similar sniper rifles in other shooter games.
