In my experience, from unranked to ranked in 2.7k where I'm currently at, people tend to play smarter in ranked, at least for me. We're more considerate of our picks and try hard. Must be hard in the low 1k life.
Then again, in Unranked I sometimes get matched with 2.4k's and the game is easy for me so it doesn't matter as much. It might depend on your unranked hidden mmr.

I'd say at least half the people going into ranked have a specific hero in mind before going in, and will only change if something or someone is loudly telling them "no, don't pick that hero!".

I first started playing ranked because I thought it meant my team would make smart picks.
It was a lie, people pick like buffoons in ranked.

Play normal mode because at least everyone is picking badly then so the odds are evened out.
