Arin you fucking retard, rayquaza wasn't a thing until 2003 outside of japan. He first appeared in Ruby and Sapphire, you could catch him after the elite 4 in that gay ass tower. If you played emerald you could catch him earlier as he was a key character in the story

fire red and leaf green are third gen aswell. they run on the same base engine as ruby and sapphire. They were made because it was impossible to trade between gameboy (color) and gameboy advance games, so that you still would have kanto pokemon in the third generation. the sevii islands were added to give more room to add johto pokemon aswell.
second gen is Gold, Silver and Crystal G/S were playable on gameboy but had special color effects if played on gameboy color, crystal was only compatible with color
pokemon black and white are fifth generation.
P.S. Fire Red and Leaf Green are remakes of the first two games. Same Region, same Pokemon variaty
