I used to be a Meepo player, I also spammed him in ranked and gained a couple of hundred points.
However I stopped playing him because lately I just can't win in solo ranked with Meepo. Mainly because:
1) Comeback mechanics: You push all towers, then they kill you twice. BAM YOU LOST
2) Turn all pick: IMO this mode killed the spamming Meepo thing. You just can't last pick, either your team won't let you pick meepo or you will be countered.
3) Too much stressful. (this is a personal thing) I really hate playing 1vs5 and carrying 4 retards. I also hate losing with 20+ kills while my team fed.
Many others Meepo players I know said this. They just can't win anymore.
Don't do this. Not in this patch
TL DR:go for option 2.
Don't play meepo, easily countered, basically in ranked you will know this hero needs too much effort than just picking an insta-win hero (just kidding but really easier to win with heroes)
Troll
Omni
Omniknight
Purist Thunderwrath (is it really his name in Doto 1?lol)
Oh yeah, bristle (without necrophos)
it is bad meta for meepo. but still you should play whatever you find fun. i personally dont find the dota that much fun anymore. regardless of winning or losing.
I still think meepo is discustingly strong right now if you go for the right items which people dont in pubs, hes also very hard to play. I can play him pretty bad where i can land a mediocre poof blink combo and win most of the time. Even if you pick es and sk, your respawn timer is so fast you can just rat indefinatly.
I have no trouble winning with him but that probably says more about the level i play at rather than anything else...
I go super-rat and bot across the map getting silly farm and the outer towers then send in my clones to break high ground whilst the prime sits in base with an aegis for a cheesy suicide push + respawn.
My original question has been a bit lost in the thread - it wasn't actually about whether meepo was good in the meta or not but rather whether playing him and getting better at him would improve my game as much as continuing to learn other heroes.
situational pick from my experience against him if enemy team has no aoe. I cant play mepoo just relating my experience vs him. So I wouldn't spam him but continue to use him as one of your heros.
If you can handle lich, ember and shaker together then go for it.
People say comeback mechanics is a big deal... Bull shit, if you can handle meepo then you win the game anyway.
ofc comeback mechanics are big deal.
it's single handedly the most important thing this patch.
@op learning other heroes will improve your understanding of them, hence it will improve how you play against them too. leading ultimately to improving yourself as a player.
or you can just play hots.
After the several nerf to it, comeback mechanics are almost nothing.
It's more about the kill when you lead that give nothing, than the kill when you are lead that give tons
Yeah because i totally didnt turn games around just because that 10/0 lina thought she cant die ever.
Or the games i sold because i get too fat with meepo too soon. And the kills that provide little after big leads are in fact a part of this mechanism we are talking about.
Complete bs of a patch, wont be missing it for a second once it goes away.
personally I like that games are now possible to come back from or throw away when one team is far ahead. I think people are forgetting how miserable it was to be stuck in a 35 min game that was completely one sided after the first 15 minutes, even winning those games wasn't enjoyable.
That said its just too hard to push high ground in this patch, and it often feels like the team with the better late game just wins regardless of how hard they get shut down.
he is amazing in normal matchmaking, horrible in ranked,
It is just hard to play as meepo and easy to counter him.

I'm fairly confident I can add a few points to my MMR spamming Meepo. I find him the panacea to pubs because you have such a lot of map presence and level of greed you can dictate when/how to push/farm/rosh etc. i.e. so long as your team aren't actively trying to feed it is pretty much a guaranteed win if you can get a couple of items without losing any rax.
If getting better is my aim (rather than increasing MMR) am I better off
1. spamming Meepo and playing against better players
or
2. keep playing other heroes and relying on persuading people to take objectives?
I'd normally say the latter but it gets pretty tedious losing games because people give up or refuse to push etc.
