i remember when kitrak lost like 500 mmr when he was in hidden pool and now he got it all back + some more (got rated 4 or 5 stars)

No because smurfing = Get me to Higher MMR for free card, or a tatic used by higher MMR people when they're bored and don't feel like a hassle.

The fact that you have a smurf account and you're complaining about "shitty" teammates leaves little to no room for someone like me, a person who believes hard work gets you better at this game, to care about.

other team: lina or storm mid, troll safelane, earth spirit offlane, 2 supports who rotate mid or bot after helping safelane secure farm for a few minutes

your team: some trash hero mid, 1 jungle axe who can't farm his blink by 12 min even if nobody is ganking/harassing him, 1 support who leeches exp cuz pulling/zoning out enemy offlaner too hard, ur offlane feeds like 0-5 before finally abandoning the lane and then stealing ur jungle farm (assuming axe hasn't taken it all already)

the problem with hidden pool is that mmr is no longer an indication solely based on what u might call "pub skills" but rather your behavior. i flame a lot in solo q, i don't sugarcoat my words and treat my team like snowflakes if they're fucking retarded...so yea it's understandable i might get rated 1 star after certain matches. can i get out of hidden pool? absolutely. just 5 stack and tell everyone to rate each other 5 stars if it pops up.

but do i want to waste the time to do so? it'll be a while before solo q is playable again and i might as well play something else for what it's worth (but apparently i bailed on u once and i don't want u to kill me for doing it again so i'll play on sunday lulz)

Unranked on main acc is fucking unplayable, i remember a guy last picks invoker and goes cliff jungling because "i want to play invoker so I pick invoker"

It's a downward spiral. You get matched with toxic people and these assholes flamers have to rate you in stars for next matches for you to get out. How can they rate you 5?

On the other hand on this account I got many fun and balanced games. Last games I was really on a tilt so I stopped playing for a while.

people needs to understand that mmr is a number, a skill level. Doesn't matter how you get there, if you play at 5k mmr and you can maintain it, 5k is your mmr. Your true rating is a stable mmr, that won't go higher or lower in a large number of matches.

I cannot help it but notice that u guys refer to the personal star-scoring system of teammates as a cause leading to hidden trash pool. I perceive it more like a way to matchmake players together who enjoy playing together like a dating site.
So if u flame ingame u will never get 5 stars of a non autistic player, hence never be matchmade w braincells but only w guys u carried along. they didnt make an effort for +25 but gave you 5 stars. So now u will be preferbly matchmade w leechers.

I actually stopped rating most ppl. I rate only if they made a very good impression. And i remember that games turned shitty once I 5-star the wrong person (like a party friend, who actually is not a character i wanna be matchmade in single queue with).

I honestly feel that people are either stuck in old Dota2 mindsets or aren't willing to change/alter gameplay to suit each bracket. Some people know how to deal with it and are still able to climb, albeit slowly. Some people just start trying to play lina/troll/sniper but again, most of them fail cause they don't know how the hero really is mastered they simply pick it to try and fit in with the meta.

People forget that there are other heroes in the pool and simply rely on the meta heroes rather than good playstyle and end up just trying to hold on to their MMR by playing Troll or other of the meta pool.

I think I agree that the hidden pool exists but I also agree that is possible to come out on top if you're focused more on hero picks, and how you see the meta as opposed to playing around it and trying to counter it. Stuff like "Support Morph every game" or some other popular pick but I have seen heroes like Cent, Undying, Viper etc. utterly destroy games. Where did 99% of the hero pool go?

Games are shitty cause people either play the meta, or are sick of it so do dumb shit thinking that if the other team has a troll/sniper they automatically lost. Good play > Meta heroes.

I don't completly believe in hidden pool BUT

I stoped to play during 4 months, when I came back I lost about 300 mmr, mainly because of me. I was slow on last hits, slow to use spells and items and mainly my hands "forgot" the dota settings so I used wrong button everytime. Still playing very bad I didn't get flamed, teamates tried to win and played well in despite how bad i was, It was really surprising I thought at this point that people behavior changed.
Then I climbed back my mmr. In the process I started to flame a bit as I usually do, recently I was even muted because I flamed some trash stack that ruined the game these players with very high mmr and they don't use spells, like enigma not using third spells to defend push... I then got into low priority as I could not talk and people reported me for this. Now I have retards in every game, not buying courier, last pick carry when we have 4 carries.... Of course I lost 100 mmr in the process.

About mmr people think they can't outplay others players with 500 or 600 less mmr, it's completly false mmr is a very vague way of mesuring your skills, I'm soon to be in very high bracks and yet when I play with friends with 2k mmr I can't carry shit if I don't tryhard. I once beat a storm mid with pudge who had about 4k7 mmr.

I've watched replays of 'hidden pool' games. It's just the main player refusing to play the game due to his mindset.

Since unranked and ranked games are separated you can get better/worse allies due to unranked/ranked mmr.
If you climb too fast on MMR, your unranked MMR won't be changed until you play the appropriate games.
For instance "A waifu a day keeps society away" has 4.7k mmr after boosting that throw away 2k acc. However his unranked games will have mostly 2k mmr players and the games barely break "High skill" bracket.
So this is a legit "shadow/hidden pool" scenario although not intentional.

But that there really exists a REAL shadow/hidden pool is completely bullshit, me and my friend were one of the highest reported players and had to use a high amount of accs since people would report us after getting stomped due to the salt concentration being too high. I mean every match we had 16 LPQ games to grind out on different accs. HOWEVER we never got essentially bad teammates, no flaming idiots or feeders. Just normal players and salty enemies.

If you are still in denial OP, post a matchID and we'll review it.

I wonder what star rating is being used for? It's not like Valve is going to change +25/-25.

I can understand putting 'rate me' on a smurf to further optimize detection, yet often they ask you to rate non smurfs.

Could it be related to reports?

1) You stomped
2) You got reported
3) Your team is asked to rate you at the end
4) If rating is positive - report removed?

i'm going to run an experiment starting today

Conditions:

1) I play 3 games a day (maximum, usually less) to avoid tilt
2) I pick a support every game (Top support choices: Venomancer, Lion, Venge, Disruptor, Sand King, Morphling, Winter Wyvern)
3) I will type rarely - In all other cases, I will use the chat wheel to praise people for doing well, telling them to get back, get roshan, etc. Never flame or criticize.
4) I will play during daytime hours on either US East or EU West (Noon - 9 PM roughly)

After about 30 or so games we can see results. (I think it will also help to post my recent games/mmr changes just to show you how detrimental this hidden pool can be)

This hidden pool is real.. When i calibrated in 3.9 or 4k i was really happy.. But in a month my mmr dropped to 3020.. One more game road to 2k.. My fren said i stayed where i had to stay... I dropped down because my skill just belong to the bracket.. Even he saw me owned with invoker n puck all the time i went like 30 kills.. Still cant win the game... Fvkin puck n invoker with 20% wr over 100 games.. But i fvkin climb from that shit.. But that hidden pool is real one.. When it comes to your turn to win the game it will take an hour game or cumback game.. But when you lost you just ended up getting rekt by someshit in 20 or 30 mins.. Now im 4.5k and hidden pool still exist.. Where ppl just pick core even your team have 3 cores already and when your enemies had good laneup. They dont care.. Will still do another core fail and they will be the on type gg.. "Very high skill bracket" LMAO
