Quick Cast is so much better. People don't use it because they don't know about it.
I do Alt + (hotkey for spell) for non-Quick Cast, but I never use it because quick cast is so much better.
Don't use quick cast for items.
I do find quick cast gives you little advantage over non-quick cast.
At first, you'll find quick cast bad because you are used to non-quick cast
but once you get use to quick cast, you'll realize quick cast is so much better.
i used normal cast for 2 years. i switched to quick cast 2-3 months ago. i dont think any is better, its just personal preference. i use quickcast for both items and spells except for tps
I would recommend using quick cast for blink and maybe hex but everything else depends.
I don´t really know if it gives you an advantage.. i mean you maybe save about ~0,5 milliseconds (just guessing but the difference is just so small) but it´s the same for laying that bracer down if you use you´re last bottle charge. Those 5 hp you get extra wont save you 95% of the time but they could probably do.
Btw did someone else notice some problems with blink and qc or i am just to stupid to avoid getting hit?
you can only blink in the direction you are facing and then its instant
so if youre not facing in the blinkdirection your hero has to turn first
Quick cast should pretty much only be used on things you need to cast quickly...makes a lot of sense doesn't it? Things like meepo's poof, blink, and counter initiations should probably all be quick casted.
The only problem with quick cast is that you can't use the "double-click to cast on self" thing. If you know the aoe of skills and you don't play heroes like omni, lc, od, sd, etc then quick cast is better.
For skills I use quick cast by default and for items only on ALT+key, so far useful only for blinks after reincarnation / naga song. The force staff slot for sure should not be on quick cast.
tried to get used to forcestaff but i keep switching it on and off quickcast as i cant seem to force myself effortlessly or not with good enoughcontroll
self cast is not so hard actually on anything but forcestaff (tp also not useful) i feel like that's so fucking hard idk maybe i should go in a singleplayer game -wtf and force myself all over the map for like an hour maybe that helps
scaling aoe abilities are kind of a bitch but even then i'd use it on leshrac and lina anytime it just feels so much better
@Sou ka: if you´re talking about the time difference I was talking about, I meant the delay between the button for the item/skill and the mouseclick. It may be even less than 0,5 ms but like I said.. it could make a difference.
I play with absolutely everything on quick cast (even force staff). If you´re fast with the mouse (and if you got enough practice) there is no real problem. Except TP´s.. I always click right next to the minimap so i dont tp to the fountain and that kinda sucks (and Soul Catcher.. you just can´t use quick cast and this skill)
i played sd twice since i switched to quickcast and i always forgot to turn it off for soul catcher and wonder why i never hit the right target
so quickcast is like: im aiming forward and instead of clicking the hotkey for force staff and target it on myself, quickcast key for force staff will just push me forward?
i dont get it??
what is quickcast=?
It´s like a mouseover macro. Your skill or item gets instantly used on that target where your mouse is over. Nothing else
with the downside being that you cannot use the double-tap self target function, so not all abilities are optimal on quickcast.
i use all abilities on quickcast, except for natures prophet where teleport is the usual W key so i can double tap it to go home.
for items i have 3 quickcast, and the other 3 are for items that I might need to self cast e.g. eblade, force, euls, teleport
I really love it, increased my reaction times by a wide margin. Especially towards casting Astral Imprisonment on myself. Also allows me to spam click abilities on enemies and really get what I actually want. Also increased my awareness, as I spend less time focussing on hitting abilities.
I refuse to ever normal cast again.
@Androgynous
I have a console script that allows me to cast abilities on myself with one keystroke.
QC is good only on spells, in Items generally don't go to well..
Use alt+hotkey+hptkey to self cast is a solution, or you can QC your own portrait..
The only hero I don't play QC is Invoker, because lack of support to legacy keys, and sometimes you just want to hold a spell to do a better combo, and is easily with normal cast
Can be good on items too if you use veil / eblade / dagon a lot. You do the full combo in half of second instead of 2 seconds.
I used quickcast for Tinker and it went well before the patch. Now I have quick cast setup for my skills and inventory it's good specialy for meepo as I can blink poof fast without any errors. I only have normal cast for 1 slot in inventory for TP or BoT
Ever since that dotabuff admin or whatever he is posted a GIF where he insta hexed a Magnus AFTER he blinked in and BEFORE he used RP (literally below 1 second timeframe) I have been into quickcast on heroes like Lion, Skywrath and Rhasta who have silence/hex-like abilities that are instant. I only use it for that one ability though, the rest of the abilities like impale and mana drain I still use normal cast.
I use quick cast for everything except 3 inventory slots (tp, forcestaff, eul) and that kind of items when u need to double click. Abilities are so much easier to use because u can cast it instantly. So i completely recommend it. Ofc if u havent played with quick cast its going to feel weird when u start but u will get used to it.
I quick cast with every hero and spell except natures tp i dont use it for items but might use it for blink only
to quick cast u need to know the aoe of the spells so no errors happen
Good for blinking away after euls/split/reincarnation/disruption and etc. Otherwise fuck it
I never ever understand quickcast. I understand the theory behind it but never be able to get it to work?
For an example on meeepo, I've tried turning quickcast on, but I thought the meepo should poof / earthbind to wherever my mouse is pointing when I click the skill once? Didnt work :( So always back to manual casting aha :(
^ it should. Quick-cast rocks. The only problem is not being able to double-click items/skills but that can easily be fixed by for example having ALT+Q be a normal Q cast.
i use it for blink and that is it. one inventory slot is set to quick cast, the rest are not.
@ConcealedTerror
Quickcast blink isn't good after euls. You could simply shift+cast for instant blink on self euls, and if your opponent euls you then you cant blink after anyway.

I think there were some thread like this somewhere but i couldn´t really find it with the search function aka on the first page so I just write one myself.
What do you think about quickcast? What are your experiences with it? Would you recommend it? When and when not? Are there some skills/items that should or should not be always on quickcast? Wieso liegt hier Stroh? Warum hast du eine Maske auf?
So many questions..
