Cause its risky, thats why. You go rapier if you are behind. There can always something unforseen happen, and boom rapier gone. On top:
Rapier does not come in small chunks. Its pretty nasty to built it up.
I build it as 4th item on Medusa in every game I need a 4th item. Few times I builded it as 3rd. It's a core.
you are talking about pro teams? its cuz pro teams will rarely draft a team that cannot kill a certain hero. like there will be a puck for a weaver, disruptor for naga etc if they have no skills to imaginably kill a certain hero it doesnt matter what they build. then again, an easy counter to the rapier build would be to 5 man and teamfight.
Almost win > hard def > Buy rapier > drop > counter push > lose
that's why rapier is hard choice
but if u guarded by 4 teammates full support maybe u can go 3 rapiers also like this trailer

All you need is one mistake no matter how foolproof your idea sounds (and it isn't) to lose that rapier, i wouldn't risk putting tournament money on the line in a competitive situation nor trust 4 other pubs in a casual game.
There may be other viable low-risk pocket strats that could be unleashed in TI4 through imo..
I did 3 rapiers in 30 min with slark the first time i played this hero.
whats the point of buying second most expensive item in the game and risking dropping it when u can buy some other item for much less that can potentialy change game
no it doesn't unless ur something like gyro or ember and got team that fully protects u from damage
in a game with equal teamfight composition its never worth it
Rapier is best choice when you losing double rax and playing Medusa, she is also by far best rapier carrier in game, i win many games like this what first looks like obviously lost game,

If you have a support naga with a blink she can be sitting 2 screens away from a teamfight smoked. Even without blink all to have to do is sit in fog. If your carry gets engaged on by even something like an LS bomb song->net = free disengage. If rapier is dropped someone like puck/storm/qop can easily retrieve it, or you can protect your rapier carry with a counterinitiator like Magnus/ES/enigma/tide
Rapier isn't that much worse that radiance with regards to buildup, and the impact is huge on a hero like medusa or gyro.

Why don't people build this if they have huge disengage on their team like Song + Grave? Seems like a powerful low-risk strat that lets you win the midgame hard and snowball, especially with heroes like medusa/gyro/DK/Xin/Kunkka
Why aren't teams drafted with these "rapier saving" skills to build rapiers? My impression was that it is usually the most efficient damage item and it doesn't seem like much of a throw item if you're constantly 5-manning with a naga
