50% of games you play with good people and 50% with... well... not so good. =)
I think, your MMR has nothing to do about it.
At 3000 - 3500 anything can work, as long as people can actually play their heroes.
Here's my example, ~3500mmr: http://dotabuff.com/players/92837832/matches?hero=jakiro&lobby_type=&game_mode=&match_type=real
In most games I insta-picked jakiro. In one of the games I had in my team ancient-farming tinker AND jungle ursa and we still won, lol.

Hello good friends of the Dotabuff universe, I have always thought of this, but what MMR is generally the 'standard' for players to build picks upon the first and second pick along those lines?
What MMR should I try to shoot for to reach such a feat like that? Will I ever get out of the 3250 MMR of mine? My solo is generally that, I can't seem to get higher or lower. I know that sometimes you get put into lobbies where your team picks too much carries or your team is fine, but too greedy where all the heroes need items, etc. My team rank is usually stuck @ 3650~ with a few friends who are ~4K range and another @ 3.2k. Anyway enough of my life story...
A few examples:
Player 1 picks Lycan, player 2 picks Shadow Shaman. Eventually the team builds towards a pushing lineup.
The Standard Tri-lane/Mid/Offlaner with the jungler coming in and out or the 2-1-2.
Thanks guys appreciate all the input.
P.S. All players of any 'MMR' are welcome to post, I just felt like making the title sound fancy rofl
Edit: Added "Along those lines?" to the end of first sentence
