I think Vaikiss asks a good question...although I've never played against anyone that paused more than a few min, but then I play almost all games on US servers. Though there are reasons why pro teams would not bother to play pub games...the fact is a lot of pro players do play in pub games very frequently. Just look at the Verified Players list, and that doesn't tell nearly half the story because most pro players play pubs on smurf accounts (or really just alternate accounts since the intention is merely to hide their name).
But I do think that the top pub teams would want to seek out games against each other. It would really be nice to have a Challenge/Accept/Decline feature added to team matchmaking. I think if that kind of feature existed at least the minor pro teams would use it.

I've gotten inconsistent results playing EU and RU pingwise. I've only played one game on the Russia server and it was pretty good, about 130 ping. EUwest I've had 150-300 pings. The higher end of that is a huge disadvantage.
But I'm used to playing with 30-40 ping on USwest and 5-15 ping on USeast. Making an adjustment to being a full tenth of second slower feels like its dragging, and I'm not really that quick on my fingers. The best players in the world can get a lot done in a tenth of second. If you find yourself thinking its not a big difference...it just means you are slow.

it's not about playing with a disadvantage, it's about scenes or whatever having no interaction and therefore not being comparable with a rating system
having more people in the top 50 dbr from europe wouldn't prove anything but that there are more players dominating their high level pub games (or smurfing or other things contributing to higher MMR) or having players who dominate their pubs harder than others on their server
there is little to none interaction between servers aside from US East <->EU West and even here you don't really find that many top MMR players playing tryhard games
and numbers aren't comparable at all when theres close to 0 interaction (same could be said about winrates btw)

The pings provide and interesting separation of the regions that allows a bit of a separated meta-game to develop. And until some miracle changes the uneven pings that separation will remain. The top pro teams will always have to decide who is really best in the world in a LAN tournament....AND ITS ONLY MONTHS AWAY!!!
Still I think a challenge option for Team matching would really be good. It could include a server selection in the challenge.

This is who you need to beat. Buy the ADL in game ticket and watch them play. If you think you can match that level of play I say go for it. Organize a new team. There is no reason you have to wait for a spot to open up on the established teams.
