Treant in dual lane? in General Discussion

    Does it work?

    - Is living armour enough to negate extra harassment we will receive due to our (me and carry) lack of range?

    - Should I even try to harass? I know tree's level one damage is massive and again, he has living armour to negate some received damage, but is it worth it or should I just focus on denying and harassing only when they overextend?

    - With all that in mind, will I have enough mana to support all my other lanes as well?

I know this is all theory crafting, I would just like to hear some opinions before playing the hero just to fail massively with him. General tips are more than welcome, questions up there are just for reference.

I've been liking the hero and his passive playstyle a lot lately (even more after seeing DD playing him) and so far I only played him in co-op matches which is obviously not even close compared to the real matches.

      treant is extremely situational

Sure his dual lane performance depends on the hero picks ie are they range, melee, do they have ability to dispel armour fast like gyro etc. Can that really be considered "extremely" situational? A lot of picks depends on the factors above. See, I have no fucking idea that's why I'm asking you guise.

Tree can do an excellent job of keeping a carry up and farming in a typical pub dual lane. You just need a little mana. One sobi mask is enough to spam heals. I usually make it into urn, although medallion or going for a vlads can also work out nicely.

At level 1 trees living armor is already good, but its better to just eat tangoes until he gets to level 3. Level 2 living armor is better than a Vanguard. At this point you really cannot be harrased down. 40 dmg on hero attacks is blocked and you heal 210 hp every creep wave...there is no way you can be harrassed.

Hold enough mana to use a leech seed in reserve. If they decide to rush you, leech seed can heal very quickly and in combination with living armor makes it almost impossible to kill the gank target. Once teams have failed at this once they typically stop trying.
The heal takes 3 seconds and heals for 120/180/240/300.

As tree there is no need to harrass. You will win the long game for the lane. You have a big slow attack and are melee, just let your carry farm and deny. Keep your mana for leech and wait. When someone comes to gank the lane leech and living armor will let you dive a tower for the kill. You will not need to harass them down. Just have your carry get a q-blade and out lasthit.

Of course if someone is standing next to you...you may as well hit them.

Be sure to cast living armor whenever someone is attacked. It blocks up to 80 dmg, 7 times. That could make enemy attacks do nearly zero and reduce nuke dmg dramatically. Watch the map. You can save people from the other side of the map. Even T1 tower hits only do 75-90 to heroes, 80 dmg blocked is huge. You can use living armor on a hero that is diving for a kill and they will take almost no dmg.

The reason he is 65% win in Very High games, the reason he is picked in pro games...is that he is very very good against almost all heroes if you use him correctly.

Okay, if I understood correctly, you just confirmed how his living armour is good, especially with sobi which allows me to spam it. Just what I wanted to know. However I still haven't got answers about what exactly should I do other than healing in early laning. Is staying back pulling and stacking while healing the carry a good idea or should I stay in lane with denying and harassing when possible?

            Relentless

I often play tree off-lane. I can heal the carry from the other side of the map. Since I don't need anything but basic items and levels I just hide in XP range in the long lane and heal everyone as needed.
You can go invis, but using fog is harder to stop.

If you are on the safe lane its best to stack up camps and pull. Try to get to level 3 asap because that is when you are worth a free vanguard.

After early game. Keep spamming living armor all game long. It should rarely be on cd. Heal the towers if no heroes need it. Get some cheap utility items. If you want to gank the enemy jungle, 2 points in natures guise is better than a smoke.

If you pay attention and heal up everyone all the time your team will save so much money and time its adds up to a huge advantage. Everyone can get more aggressive items, farm faster, dive towers...even T3 towers do little to a hero with level 4 living armor.

The best trick requires a bit more cooperation but if you can convince ppl to be smart...

Tree can heal all heroes and the whole creep wave when you are pushing for 300 hp. That is more than a mech. But you have to stop people from quickly nuking down the creep wave. Just leech seed the range creep and if no one hits it everyone will get more heal than a mech. If your team is disciplined this huge amount of healing can come every wave allowing you to siege forever with no items.

Treant Protector is unique as far as supports are concerned due to him being heavily defensive based.

I personally wouldn't long/off lane him as he can just get XP and survive without being able to farm or do much to keep the lane from farming whereas others (clockwerk/windrunner/bounty hunter) are extremely good at this.

Funny this post should come around as I am in the process of playing him with friends a bit to find out how exactly to use him and some of the things I have found are.

Good in tri-lanes, you can pull leaving a ranged support in lane to harrass and you can heal the lane as they do.

Doesn't need too much farm but then you have to be careful, eg you have no disables and are only able to hide and maybe heal so you can't play him as you would other supports, remember he is extremely defensive/heal based.

My suggestion from experience is don't play him out of a stack as a lot of people don't know how finicky this hero is and will expect you to do what most supports do which will end up with you feeding and just getting killed a lot with people blaming you and that sucks.

This is an example of me playing him....

I never really got kills, the one I did get was a fluke and that won't happen too much with treant unless you are fortunate.

Blink ult really helps your team and I would buff up QOP making her able to jump into towers to grab kills without fear of dying.

Living armor rendered dooms ult ineffective, and I was hiding team members for gank setups and saving them from chases.

Summary from my opinion is that he is a unique hero and needs to be treated as such sometimes just being alive and out of the fights to heal, hide and protect will help your team a lot more than jumping in the fight and dying.

He's really better pulling and stacking than harrassing and denying, unless you play against weak combination/ feel more confident with your abilities than the enemy. You should probably try to avoid picking him when your carry needs serious long time protection (f.e. melee carry against tri-lane). (I am ofc not saying he's useless in laning, but just stating that there are far better options!)

I agree with FelStyle, do not pick him for dual lane with a hard carry it will probably end badly. If you pull you will get a little farm while having time to turn your attentions to healing up lane heroes and towers.

On the other hand, people are making such fail lane-ups in the matchmaking, that treant as a protective lane support is looking quite legit in comparission to them. So you may as well stop caring, and pick him whenever you like and still be considered a valuable team player =)

Of course you would, but having not played any games with him I would not consider you the go-to-gold of this hero.

If OP needs advice of smurf stacking with only carries I will direct him to you but on this post he is looking for constructive advice on ideas of how to play this hero.

Pretty sure I now know how we works on gameplay basis. What about his build? I just played him and going Arcane > Blink > Mek worked out pretty well. Sure I'm hard support and I should get Mek firts if I'm doing well but relatively early Blink allowed me to get my team a bunch of kills.

If you are struggling getting the cash for blink you can always setup with the meld and just position well in the lane with trees.
