How To Watch TI7
With The International starting its group stages tomorrow, August 2nd, here’s a primer on what you need to watch the event.
The Tournament Format
The group splits for The International
In a departure from previous years, there will be no wild card round for the tournament. Instead, 18 teams total have qualified or been invited directly to compete in the group stages. And two teams will be eliminated after this phase, receiving only 0.25% of the prize pool each.
With the 18 teams split into two groups, teams will play every other team in their group, twice, in a round robin format. They’ll be awarded 1 point for every game win, and 0 points for a loss. At the end of the group stage on Saturday, the bottom team of each group will be eliminated from the tournament, and the remaining top 4 and bottom 4 will be seeded in the upper and lower brackets of the main event.
The main event is a double-elimination format, with the first Lower Bracket games as a best-of-one, the Grand Finals best-of-five, and the rest of the games best-of-three. As of now, the prize pool is at $23 million, already besting last year’s record setting purse and awarding the winner over $10 million.

Fans will be able to watch the game live via the in-game client, or broadcasted on Steam, Twitch, or Youtube.
For those who can’t keep their eyes glued to the screens, you can also follow play-by-play updates and real-time stats on TrackDota.
As always, Valve will have replays available after the matches have finished. But for in-depth statistics, check out our esports page for TI7. There’s going to be 144 games of Dota played over the next 4 days, which is more than the number of hours in that window. It’ll take some time travel for the most passionate fans to watch them all, but we have some great tools here for everyone else to keep up, and we’ll be writing our own recaps here on this blog. The group stage kicks off August 2nd, 18:30 CEST/09:30 PDT.

If I use the in-game client to watch the matches, will I still be able to hear to cheers of the crowd when something epic happens?
"teams will play every other team in their group, twice, in a round robin format." is ambiguous between two matches or two games (i.e. BO2). I think you meant the latter.

I think you meant series or games. Matches and games means the same. As for the actual group stage, its goign to be two games.
