Dire had rosh advantage back in 6.88 and before and even then the winrate was still radiant sided
It's because everyone starts on radiant side when first playing dota so they feel more comfortable on that side
simple: most people are right handed! Radiant side favors right handed people. is anyone left handed here - who can confirm that they have no disparity between WR for radiant and dire?
All training and game-learning is done from radiant. Even bot games are played from Radiant. So in a way, Radiant is the "home team" for some players.
This translates into player behavior. When I play radiant, I'm more likely to try my best and pick my best heroes. When dire, I'm more likely to pick random shit and lose.
I actually looked at my ~500 games I realized I do pick my highest win rate heroes more when I'm on Radiant.
Also, do a google search on this. There are lots of posts about this dispersed throughout other forums as well (Reddit etc).
The theory is that the map is somewhat biased towards radiant (easier to pull/stack, gank, creep block, etc). But hard to imagine it explains such a significantly different win rate.
I think people are just more likely to tilt and throw when they're on a team that differs from what their brain perceives to be "home".
I do agree that people seem to pick like garbage on dire, way more awful jungle picks, terrible offlanes etc.
@Kotato
i am left handed and actually have a slightly higher dire winrate, maybe you're on to something
Yes the radiant /dire split I suspect is similar to handedness. But I never considered that left handers would find dire easier. I can't see why that would make a difference. It just feels more natural moving toward the TOP right.
dire 49, radiant 53 :O
thing is, i play jungle a lot or played before it was nerfed, bounty rune spawned closer for jungler in radiant. Other than that i see no difference
54/48 for me, but I did play thousands of games as Sentinel (=Radiant) in Dota 1 days when I was active.
Dire bot if you choose to play for dire is bad, sometimes they stuck somewhere like beside secret shop so it's always annoying to play with dire side, so i have more experience with radiant side. But, since lately i have playing offlane, i got like 60% dire winrate and 40% radiant winrate, so everything about radiant advantage is mostly unjustified. Playing offlane as dire is easier for me.

cool! Now we just need some more observations and then the theory is confirmed :)
I think I found a way to close the gap between the disparity. I've been messing with my settings and I moved my map to the right side bottom while on the dire side. I noticed I didn't misclisk as often on the map, causing my hero to move unexpectedly. Try it out and see what happens.
Used to happen a lot when I meant to click away from dire ancient and towards radiant ancient, and instead hit the minimap and go in the opposite direction and die
I have:
47.66% dire
56.78% radiant on all time
41.43% dire
63.33% radiant in the last 6 month
BUT:
50.00% dire
53.85% radiant this moth (23 games)

Why do most people have a higher win rate when playing on the radiant side rather than the dire's ? I have a 5% win rate advantage when playing on the radiant team .
