    Dota 2 getting less players?

    CHAD THUNDERCOCK

It's gone through a typical life-cycle. We are on the down-trend, but it's still similar levels to when Dota 2 was initially launched and released. Look here: https://steamcharts.com/app/570#All

You will see that upon Dota's release, it only had around 200-300k players and increased to a steady 700k-800k through the first few years. Once TI came around and Valve got more publicity it averaged around 1mil and got to a peak of 1.3m players.

Now this is talking about players currently in-game, there's much more players than the 'current online' stat shows. But to have a game that consistently averages 300k-800k players at all times of day is pretty good.

Once you get to Divine+ levels you might think the game is dead bc you have 10 min queue times, but it's mostly bc you're just better than 99% of the population and the game needs to find a 'balanced' game for ya.

Now if you're in 2k-4k range you should always be able to find a match in a few mins.

Don't keep playing this game, broaden your horizons and start playing different games, there are plenty of other games that reward you more

Slowly dying really? Just because it has players between 600-800k+- constantly doesnt mean it's dying. I dont know what you're drinking to think that. Also cna you explain yourself why you think its dying? I don't know how it's about new players coming into the game but as you can see from 75k people in 2012 to 1M+- people th egame is far from dying. it has a steady fucking player base who plays the game. Don't expect every game to have 10M+ players constantly playing. I heard that the new COD game hit that mark, but still. For example im not playing the game, but they counted me probably cuz i played it before. And some people comes back for big patches, new heroes, during quarantine to play the game and so on.

It's been labelled as dying for like forever. Still manages to rake in millions and millions for the developers every year. Every year they earn more. To put things in perspective....

The BP pool is topped more than USD10 million after 3 days. 25% of all sales goes to the pool, that means that the sales was around USD40 million. Gross profit was USD30 million in 3 days. Not bad for a dying game.

Can you imagine the scene at Valve office :-

Marketing : It's circulating out their that this game is dying bro.
CEO: FxxK I really wish it would die bro so I can finally get to spends the hundreds of millions I earned. I'm so tired of coming out with new stuff .. I just wanna get some time to spend this money. Literally every time I buy a jet, the game earns me 3 more jets.

                Cheap Laugh Guy

It's free to play on Steam and only requires low spec. It cannot die at least in terms of playerbase. Like TF2.

This game will be alive for many years to come so I would not worry about it... even games that are considered ‘dead’ like PUBG have over 500,000 concurrent players. Dota peaked in about 2015/16 but it has still managed to maintain about 75% of its playerbase. Compared to other cycles this is impressive, most games become relatively obscure within a couple years of release.

dying since after ti6 or something

                          Arc

You know what dead game is? Heroes of the Storm, has almost to none player base with average 15 minute queue time with declining official tournament. A dead game is defined where the community is no longer actively participating and where competitive tournament has almost to none participant. Even if Dota has a declining player base, the competitive of this e-sport is very guarantee able since TI prize pool rocketing just like my wallet completely vanish within GabeN's Snap

I think we will see Dota for at least 10-20 more years. I don't see a decline. It's getting better & better. Esport scene was never better than now. The game design is great & it never gets boring. We might see a small drop in player base, but it's expected because there is a lot of competition for Dota right now.

Well put Parma, Dota 2 is definitely not dieing anytime soon, valve will keep making the changes to the game the strategy/complexity and as well as graphics etc so its upto par with other leading games in the industry.

Take look at dota 2 now to the dota 2 in the 2013-2014 era, its a completely different game in terms of map, strategy, graphics, not to mention the additional stuff like hero voicelines, cosmetics, random glowing stuffs, guilds/quests n what not to keep tuned for the casual gamer. This all makes the game more appealing to grind and a huge attraction to the new gamers/kids and what not.

I heard valve will make the controls like the controls in mobile legend so the game will survive longer. Are you guys excited for it?

there are people who watch dota but dont play it, so probably it'll survive longer than that
